At 16, I started my fitness journey for one reason… I wanted to look good.
So, I started hitting the gym, building up my strength and putting on some muscle. A year later, I looked and felt like a different person. My confidence was sky high and I was hooked.
Throughout the years, I continued to workout regularly until signing up for a physique bodybuilding show in my early 20s.
I hired a coach, dialed in my nutrition and dedicated myself to training. In the end, my hard work paid off and I managed to win a couple of medals.
Through this process, I learned the most effective strategies and methods to burn fat, build muscle and create an aesthetically-pleasing physique.
Later that year, I moved out to Los Angeles to pursue a career in personal training. For years, I trained out of LA’s top gyms - home to some of the biggest names on the planet.
In 2017, I launched my own personal training business, Body By Rob. This gave me the opportunity to work with clients from all over the world - both online and in-person.
As my business grew and clients were transforming their bodies, I started struggling with my own fitness routine. After years of training for looks, I was getting bored of my workouts, feeling super tight and lacked athleticism.
So I decided to give functional fitness a shot - learning new skills, movements, programs, philosophies and recovery methods.
I felt like a complete athlete. I was skilled in strength, balance, power, mobility, agility and endurance.
I noticed a major change in my mindset. By focusing more on performance (rather than the way I looked), I discovered a new level of enjoyment and motivation during my workouts.
My relationship with nutrition was healthier. Rather than looking at food as strictly calories, I started viewing it as fuel for my workouts. I found it much easier to stick to my nutrition plan and stop over-eating on weekends.
Best of all, I realized that you can use these aspects of performance training to enhance your aesthetic goals (with the right approach) and avoid the pitfalls of only focusing on looks.
With this knowledge, I developed a new style of training - combining elements of bodybuilding and functional fitness - to help my clients look good, feel athletic and enjoy their training.
My customized programs can be used by those of all ages, exercise backgrounds and fitness levels. If you’re looking to transform your health, fitness and physique, click the link below and let’s get started!
